Antes dela, o conhecimento estava fragmentado entre engenharia de produ\u00e7\u00e3o, gest\u00e3o de opera\u00e7\u00f5es e administra\u00e7\u00e3o industrial. A Toyota mant\u00e9m o TPS como espinha dorsal puxada, mas adiciona sensores IoT e analytics para detectar desvios antes que cheguem ao cliente. Walter Shewhart (1939) o transformou em ciclo fechado com controle estat\u00edstico de processos.
